You will need to begin with the basics. One of the first things you should do is to come up with a name for your business. Set up your legal entity next. One of the most popular forms of business entities is an LLC. The LLC can have an entirely different name separate from the business. You will have to check with the state to determine if the name that you choose for your LLC is available. An example of this is XYZ LLC, doing business as (DBA) ABC Contracting. Now you are ready to establish your EIN with the IRS. Keep in mind you will need to file a return with the IRS the year that you establish your EIN even if you do not conduct any business. If you need to borrow money start with an SBA loan. this process can take several months depending on the bank you choose. Find a company that offers good liability insurance at competitive rates. I found the prices for an annual policy to vary greatly so take your time and shop around. Create your website and your Google listing next. From there you can set up your Facebook page, Instagram page and various other social media platforms. Finally you should create your logo, business cards, flyers, t-shirts, and other forms of merchandising.
