The disgusting home

I don’t know where to start here. I have been in thousands of homes over the past five years and there are four that quickly come to mind. I am talking about filth beyond filth. We are talking about filth that is not fit for human occupancy. I am talking about homes that are so filthy that you need a containment suit so that you don’t get sick.
I recall pulling up to a large two-story home in wonderful neighborhood. The customer opens the door and I take a step inside. I immediately gag from the smell and the site. I just wanted to turn around and walk straight out but shit, I am already in the house. There was literally garbage all over all of the floors with just a trail to get from room to room. You couldn’t use the kitchen cabinets and sinks as they were covered with garage. Here is what I saw. Imagine taking your kitchen trash and just placing that trash bag in the living room floor. Now keep doing this every day until its like a landfill. Now carve a path in that trash that leads to the other rooms in the house. Now add to that two heave smokers, and over a dozen cats and dogs.
The animal feces, and combination of cigarette smoke was horrendous. This is no joke. I was dumbfounded. The interior of the residence was like going to a landfill. I wrote the estimate very high. Six months later they called me and agreed to the estimate. Of course, my dumbass didn’t pay attention to the phone number. I put them on the schedule and when we went out to do the work I was like “f me” this is that house. I paid the guys triple to do the work.
I actually saw two more that were worse than that one. I can’t help but think how do these people live in this environment. It is literally uninhabitable. Yes it was worse than the one that I just described. Just disgusting beyond belief. You literally want to go home and burn your clothes and disinfect your body.
Another house that shocked me was in a normal neighborhood. When I pulled up, the customer was in the driveway. The customer was in a business suit standing next to a very nice car. When I entered the house, my jaw hit the floor. My god it was gross. It was not fit for living. There was no way to even access the repairs that she needed. The kitchen table and kitchen cabinets were covered with trash. The floors were covered with trash. There was barely a place to even stand.
These are incredibly uncomfortable situations. You certainly don’t want to subject your employees to these environments. If you’re in business long enough, you will encounter this. The scary part is having to find a tactful way out of this situation so that you don’t aggravate the customer and get a horrible review. I have to tell you though; it can be mind boggling. How in God’s name can a human choose to live this way every day. I am talking about nice homes, nice cars in the driveway, the customer is dressed very nice and yet the house is unfit for human living. I can’t explain it.
